During the day, you roam an urban environment devastated by a mysterious epidemic, scavenging for supplies and crafting weapons to help you defeat the hordes of mindless, flesh-hungry enemies the plague has created. It’s as exhilarating as they let you believe it is
I remember seeing the trailer and thinking that there’s no way it’s that intense. Well, let me describe the first few minutes of the demo.
The game starts in a small safe-zone, I climb a wall, jump outside, walk a bit on the street, and see a zombie. I think ‘c’mon buddy, let’s see what you got’. A nano second later the plagued killer was in my face; he had already hit me once and all around, more of them started to make some dauntingly sinister sounds. Managing to swing a few bats to the zombie’s head I realised just how wonderful the audio is and how loud my headphones were.
After that, I quickly climb to the top of the tallest housing complex I could find to catch my character’s breath, and just stared at the immensity of the world around and how messed up everything looked. I spot some groups of zombies, and as I think about descending, I hear screams, I turn around, and this female zombie is inches away from ripping me to pieces. I swing my bat with confidence towards her ugly face. She dodges with unnatural zombie grace and at that point I understood that this is far from being a stereotypical zombie apocalypse survival game. This is the simulator.
Excellent atmosphere, and immersive gameplay
In the one hour you get from the demo there’s not much you can do but it is more than enough to see how captivating the experience gets. Leaving aside the fun that comes from traversing the open world using parkour gameplay mechanics, the combat is terribly enjoyable even though you will cringe at how some bat-to-skull moments look.
The excellent graphics with near perfect audio and fluid gameplay allow Dying Light to instantly get a hold of you. In terms of content and features, you get a great open world, day-night cycles that bring gameplay variations, intense combat, crafting, and last but certainly not least, online multiplayer co-op.
Play it just to see how well it runs on your computer
At this point, seeing as how Dying Light is a great game and has been from the official launch date, there’s no need to put effort into convincing you that this is a very good title. It is; the thousands of people who have played it since can reassure you of that.
All that’s left to do is install it and see how well the game runs on your PC. It does need a lot of juice to work properly, but it’s understandable when you have this much going on.
